banca-romaneasca Banca Romaneasca – Romanian commercial bank set up in 1993. RAEF acquired a majority stake in 1998 and turned it into one of the leading SME lenders on the domestic market and a provider of high quality banking services. RAEF exited Banca Romaneasca in 2003 by selling its stake to National Bank of Greece. 2003
estima-finance Ralfi/Estima Finance – Romanian Consumer Finance Company. It was founded in 1997 as a local small player in Cluj, Northern Romania. RAEF took over the controlling stake in 2003, changed the strategy and built it into an important player at country level. The exit from Estima Finance was part of a complex transaction with GE Money.

2006
motoractive Motoractive – Romanian leasing company, set up in 1998 as a greenfield company by three private equity funds, RAEF included. Following the acquisition of all shares by RAEF in 2002, Motoractive had become the largest Romanian independent (neither bank- nor vendor-owned) leasing company by the time of exit. RAEF exited in 2006 as part of the same complex transaction with GE Money.

2006
domenia-credit Domenia Credit – First specialized mortgage company in Romania. It was incorporated by RAEF in February 2003, immediately after the Parliament passed the legal framework regulating and allowing such financial companies to operate. The fund structured a complex equity and debt financing package involving the EBRD, DEG and IFC. RAEF sold Domenia in 2006 as part of the same complex transaction with GE Money.

jet-finance Jet Finance – Largest and fastest-growing consumer finance company in Bulgaria. During the time of BAF’s involvement it controlled about 45-50% of the consumer finance market. Was acquired by BNP Paribas in 2007.

2007
domo Domo Retail – Romanian retailer specialized in white and brown goods and IT&C products, established in 1994. In 2004, at the time of RAEF & BAF entry, it was already the second largest household appliances retailer in Romania, operating 102 stores all on the domestic market with 670 employees. By the 2007 exit, DOMO operated 112 stores in Romania and 8 in Bulgaria, employing more than 1,350 people.

2007
policolor Policolor – the largest manufacturer of paints and varnishes in Romania. RAEF entered Policolor (PCL) in 1997, in a privatization deal. A restructuring process had to be set underway during the 1998-2000 crisis. Policolor was the first Romanian industrial company to expand abroad by acquiring in 1998 the majority stake in its Bulgarian peer Orgachim (ORGA). The two companies underwent a long and complex restructuring process rationalizing capacities and processes and bringing the product ranges in line with market demand, largely finalized by 2007.

2008
noriel Noriel Established in 1994 as a producer of educational and family games, Noriel became by 2008 an important distribution channel in Romania for many large international brands and for the company’s own branded products. In 2010, at the time of BAF entry, Noriel was entering the retail and by the exit time in 2016 it became the leading Romanian specialised retailer operating 45 stores in 30 towns of Romania through a combination of small-format stores for toys only and megastores offering all essential goods for children. deutek Founded in 1993, Deutek originally imported its paints from Germany, switching to local production in 1998. Since then, Deutek has constantly developed its manufacturing expertise and has succeeded in establishing a leadership position in Romania’s decorative paints industry. Its products, which include the Oskar and Danke! brands, enjoy a high level of consumer awareness and are recognized for their quality and performance. During EEAF’s holding period, Deutek executed a consistent and successful business model oriented to premium products’ development & innovation, efficient sales & marketing, well-organised production and financial discipline. Its distribution system is one of the strongest in the industry, operating through a national network of local or regional distributors which supply some 3500 wholesale and retail outlets.
